WHAT IS THE OVERKILL?

The Overkill festival is a playful art festival celebrating art house video games, interactive art and films as tools to engage in social challenges. The program of the festival regroups an exhibition, workshops, talks, experimental live performances and screenings. In 2023 The Overkill festival is also the stage of a LARP (live action role play) that each visitor can be part of. 

The program brings local, national and international artists and creators together and is curated by Aike Lütkemöller and Marie Janin from Sickhouse with the support of guest curator Kostis Stafylakis, playful curator Zuraida Buter and artist researcher Erik Peters. The LARP, The Horde : Goblin Mode is a co-creation of Kostis Stafylakis and Theo Triantafyllidis.

The Overkill festival is open from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19 November. From the Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 November the festival is open with an exhibition , workshops, talks, parties and more…

THEME 2023 :

The outburst of the digital swamp

Rather than evading the (digital) wetlands, The Overkill wishes to design a route through its muddy paths. Artists navigating the Postdigital constellation think of the swamps as a playground to hybridise, as material under transformation and a womb for monstrous mutation. Today the swamp is reconsidered as a space for agency, it is inhabited by amphibious entities and exiled varieties of the self, the swamp is a liquefying space expanding on the different ecosystems.

The Overkill festival invites these hybrid and mixed media artists, accustomed to the porous and dripping networks of the everglades and welcomes everyone to venture into unstable fantasy spaces. Influenced by the proliferation of memes, wet aesthetics, derailed futures, “phygital”* morphologies and mixed fairy tales, these networks are to be navigated in daring ways, taking on a role and playing on the scenarios of an imminent reconfiguration of the planet.

1- REGULATIONS FOR SAFE SPACE – SICKHOUSE
To participate in The Overkill, we ask you to read, respect and endorse these regulations.
We want the festival to be a place where you feel free to act and react and unleash your inner self. But we ask you to be considerate of others around you who may be shyer or prefer a softer atmosphere. Let’s enjoy the space together! There must be room for all playful spirits.
SAFE SPACE
We ask everyone who enters The Overkill/Sickhouse, in its physical form and in our online spaces, streaming locations and their chat programs, to be kind and respectful to all others; artists, crew and fellow visitors. We do not tolerate any form of sexual harassment, discrimination, racism and aggression, in all its forms. It will result in an immediate removal of the location on site or a ban from our online spaces. If at any time you feel intimidated, unsafe or unsure during an event of The Overkill, please let a member of staff know so we can assist you immediately. We are here for you!

2- GENERAL RULES ON SITE

If the house rules are violated, a local ban from The Overkill may be issued.

For more security and an easier administration, we prefer PIN payment at the entrance and at the bar.
Follow the instructions of the festival volunteers and security, they are clearly recognisable by their work clothes;
